5 benefits of Manitou mobile elevating platforms for your worksite

A mobile elevating platform is designed to provide temporary access to elevated areas, typically for tasks such as maintenance, construction, or repair work. This equipment is often equipped with a platform that can be raised and lowered using hydraulic or electric systems, allowing workers to reach heights safely and efficiently.

Manitou mobile elevating platforms are used for a variety of applications, including construction, maintenance, warehousing, event setup and industrial applications. The new SE range of Manitou mobile elevating platforms offer a range of benefits for worksites, including enhanced safety, a reduction in maintenance costs and easy handling and operation.

Read about the 5 main benefits below for your worksite!

1. Ensuring safety on-site

Mobile elevating platforms are essential to construction and maintenance, and ensuring safety in their operation is essential. They provide access to heights where workers are exposed to fall hazards, so proper safety measures prevent accidents and protect workers from serious injuries or fatalities. Safety regulations must also be adhered to, to promote both legal compliance and a culture of safety within the workplace.

The main safety risks associated with mobile elevating platforms include:

  • Falls from heights
  • Tip-overs
  • Electrical hazards if in contact with overhead power lines
  • Entanglement if not wearing the correct PPE
  • Collisions
  • Operator error with inexperienced or untrained operators
  • Stability issues for improperly positioned platforms of those lacking appropriate stabilisers
  • Maintenance failures
  • Weather conditions, like high winds, rain or icy conditions

The new range of Manitou mobile elevating platforms provide optimum safety for users on your worksite. Here are the main safety features offered by the new range:

  • The anti-rollover bars considerably reduce the risk of the machine tipping over when moving and in the transport position, the stabiliser bars are automatically positioned under the chassis to increase ground clearance.
  • The non-slip step and wide handles of the basket provide three points of support for operators to get on and off safely.
  • The entire surface of the floor is fitted with anti-slip strips – by simply pressing a foot pedal, your operators can easily deploy the extension while maintaining an ergonomic position.
  • If the mobile elevating platform runs out of power, a pull cord can be used to lower it
  • Depending on how the mobile elevating platform is used, the audible and visual alarms can be set without the need for any external tools.

2. Reduction in maintenance costs

Maintenance costs for mobile elevating platforms can vary widely based on several factors, including the type of machine, its age, usage frequency and specific maintenance requirements. Some common costs involved in their maintenance include routine inspections, scheduled preventative maintenance, like servicing hydraulic systems and checking electrical components, and unexpected repairs dur to wear and tear. Costs can vary from hundreds to thousands of pounds, depending on the issue.

With two asynchronous motors, the new SE range of Manitou mobile elevating platforms are given greater autonomy, improved energy efficiency and a lighter weight. They are protected by a steel casing that prevents impact with materials used on construction sites, such as plastic and wood. This ensures that your machinery lasts longer and requires less maintenance!

This range also has a simplified integrated diagnostics architecture, meaning tool-free maintenance is possible, saving time. Lubrication is also unnecessary, reducing maintenance costs as the axles are nitride, providing high resistance to wear, friction abrasion and seizure. The swivel bins have also been specifically designed to prevent water infiltration due to bad weather.

3. Easy to drive

Thanks to its joystick and technology, your operators will be able to position the new Manitou mobile elevating platform on the worksite with greater precision. The steering of the guide wheels is also excellent, with an inside turning radius of zero, enabling your operator to manoeuvre easily, even in the most confined spaces.

The new range also comes with an intuitive man/machine interface. The low-level instrument panel is perfectly aligned for improved visibility, with controls identified by pictograms and colour codes, making diagnostics quick and easy.

The removeable basket control unit can be positioned around the entire perimeter of the top rail of the basket, to suit right or left-handed operators for improved comfort. It also allows the mobile elevating platform to be driven from outside the basket.

4. Basket flexibility

A platform extension of up to 90 centimetres is standard on Manitou mobile elevating platforms. It provides more offset and extends your working area. The operator can easily deploy the basket extension using a foot pedal while maintaining an ergonomic position, and the platform can be locked in 3 positions.

The Manitou SE range of mobile elevating platforms have 2 basket capacities to choose from: 230kg (SE 0808 and SE 1008), and 250kg (SE 1212).

5. Connectivity features

The SE mobile elevating platforms offer optional connectivity solutions. This means you can manage your fleet remotely and benefit from a wealth of information about your machines, all accessible from your PC, tablet or smartphone. Helping you save time, this connectivity enables you to share your alerts directly with the technician to anticipate parts and reduce response times. As an optional extra, you can view the performance of your machines in a graphical format that’s easy to follow and interpret.

The new range of Manitou mobile elevating platforms will help enhance productivity, ensure worker safety and streamline maintenance for your worksite. Whether for construction, maintenance or any task that requires access to elevated areas, mobile elevating platforms provide the versatility and reliability necessary for success in today’s fast-paced work environments.
